Film 4 logo- I like the way it's so structural with the shapes and lines the white is very effective and makes the text stand out. I think this could be good to use in our own logo. It has a modern look which we will want to apply to our logo. The red color has connotations of blood, horror & danger which is perfect for the horror genre theme. It is an eye grabbing and easy to read.
20th Century Fox- A extremely well known institution in film founded in 1904 in New York City. The logo was originally designed by being painted on several layers of glass then animated frame by frame. It has been mordernised many times since but still has a art deco, grand look to its logo. The 20th Century fox has a well known fanfare sound when it appears on screen. I like the way this short sound effect is so well known and think we can apply this to our institution moving logo. We could use a scary, unrecognizable sound to create mystery and being so different would be recognizable for the public.
Dream works Logo- The dream works logo is a fun and is interesting to look at as it tells a short narrative. It features a young boy sitting on the moon whilst fishing. When this logo was being made Steven Spielberg wanted a CGI logo made but Dennis Meuren wanted a painted image. Both were made in the end the CGI image was picked over the painted! I like how this uses imagery and has connotations of what themes that Dream work films follow ie Fantasy, love, fun and lighthearted imaginative, fictional stories. The simple white background really makes the blue text and image stand out.
Lions gate logo- Something I find interesting and very clever about the Lionsgate logo is they have evolved over time. From just starting from a basic logo with a lion very cliche it has evolved into a interesting, creative and eye grabbing logo. More recently they have two different logo's which i think work really well and are great to look at for the horror film genre. They have one moving logo that finishes with a grey sky and is positive happy and makes you look forward to the film engaging straight away. There other version named 'Lionsgate horror intro' is more rugged and has creaking gears and the doors are rusty as they are opened. The red sky gives the appearance of red and blood and hell linking to lots of themes of horror such as Saw that this has been used for. This works well at gripping the audience and straight away creating an uneasiness and suspense. I think in both versions the wheels and mechanical looks very effective and we could use this in our unprecedented logo.
When thinking about our own institution we should think about using this mechanical look and the idea of a ambient background sound to create tension and mood for the opening institution.
