Casino Royale in 9 shots
What is really gripping about the opening credits of Casino Royale of (2006) is the action element that is released right at the start. There are many links to casino's with the links of cards, hearts and money. The colour red is very significant in this opening. The opening shot fades with blood dripping down the shot signifying blood, death and violence The red also is used to symbolize the danger that surrounds Bond also of the Queen of Hearts linking to the Casino theme in the narrative and film title. Also a lot of violence is already present. It is fast pace and prepares the audience for the fast pace action thriller crime hybrid genre they are about to experience. These effective opening credits I think have symbolized the reinvention of the James Bond series and enforce the character of Bond right away to catch the audience. The white text and simple font used for credits is simple yet effective. Does not draw the audiences eye away to much but as a key convention of opening sequences it is needed to represent all people involved with the making and producing of the film.
A music soundtrack by (Chris Cornell- You know my name) is used in the credits is used to produce excitement, create a tempo and the lyrics give clues to the narrative and genre of the film. The first lyrical being "If you take a life do you know what you'll give" It sounds mysterious
CGI has been used well to create animation's of the guns, the queen of hearts and this world that James Bond is walking around. The silhouette's of men fighting are also animations. Works well not introducing any real characters but giving the sense of fights, tension and suspense.
There is also a clear emphasis of the '007' theme. Shown as an animated card a 7 queen of hearts and also seen in a close up shot of a computer screen reading '007 status confirmed'
The titles last for approx 3.15 where the credits fade to black and the film begins!
A very effective opening with a strong focus on theme and genre.
